Curb Appeal Award Winner Announced!

Introducing Fernandina Beach’s First-Ever Curb Appeal Award Winner: JW Frame Gallery

Congratulations to JW Frame Gallery, owner Stephanie Wilkinson, and manager Donna Carine, whose business was selected as the first-ever recipient of FBMS’ inaugural Curb Appeal Award.

The Curb Appeal Award formally recognizes those property owners who demonstrate community pride and maintain their property as a beacon of higher standards to which other property owners may aspire.

Located at 917 S 8th Street, JW Frame Gallery has transformed its building’s aesthetic into a chic and eye-pleasing design. The new building color, awning, signage, lighting, and landscaping are sure to catch the attention of passers-by. In recognition of this marvelous make-over, we proudly honor them as the inaugural recipient of this award.

Now Available on the Distrx App!

History Happens Here Walking Tour

May is Historic Preservation Month! And to celebrate, we’ve created a walking tour of 9 historic Fernandina buildings as well as the local businesses - both past and present - that continue their legacy.

Fernandina Beach Main Street’s History Happens Here walking tour can be found on the Distrx app, available on Apple and Android devices. This self-paced walking tour tells the story of the city’s history through the businesses that have called them home across the years. Vintage photos, rich descriptions, and audio narration bring the stories to life.

In addition to the nine tour destinations, anyone with the Distrx app on their phone can find retail shops, restaurants, bars, and things to do in Fernandina Beach.

Nearly 70 businesses in the FBMS District have already claimed their business at no charge and are represented on the app. If your business is not yet part of this, or you know of a business who should be, please share this opportunity!

4 Council Updates

A Main Street America™ program's work is organized around Four Points: Economic Vitality, Design, Promotion, and Organization. Councils representing these four points are key to accurately representing the Fernandina Beach community as we identify their unique competitive advantage, leverage the power of residents and local stakeholders, and implement a series of short-and-long-term projects. Learn about the mission and goals of these councils in our first newsletter below and be sure to check back for the latest council updates in future newsletters:

Economic Vitality:

The Economic Vitality Council focuses on capital incentives and other economic and financial tools to assist new and existing businesses. They catalyze property development and create a supportive environment for the multitudes of businesses and property owners that drive our local economy. They are responsible for building a diverse economic base. Example of work accomplished by this council includes:

  • Implementation and introduction of the Distrx App

  • Hosting quarterly business networking events

  • Creation and implementation of the Curb Appeal Award

Design:

The Design Council supports our community's historic preservation by enhancing the physical and visual elements of our business district. They capitalize on the unique assets that set the Fernandina Beach District apart from other historic towns by creating and inviting and inclusive atmosphere. Example of work accomplished by this council includes:

  • Updating and placement of the downtown wayfinding signs

  • Creating and sharing sidewalk and streetscape guidelines

  • Improving and updating the downtown’s landscaping

Promotions:

The Promotions Council hosts events throughout the year that position the Main Street Members and Partners as the center of the community and the hub of economic activity. These events create a positive image that showcases our communities unique mix of business and entertainment and encourages the “buy local” experience. Example of work accomplished by this council includes:

  • Hosting bi-annual Sip and Shop events

  • Organizing the seasonal window painting

  • Helping to organize and host the Black Friday Pajama Party

Organization:

The Organization Council is responsible for creating a multi-tiered foundation that incites sustainable revitalization within our district. They cultivate partnerships with the business and property owners, encourage community involvement and recruit resources to help all the councils accomplish their strategic goals. They forge partnerships across the business and community sectors. Example of work accomplished by this council includes:
