Shrimp Festival Street Closures

shrimp festival park and ride posterThursday, May 2, 2019, from 6:00 p.m. until after 8:00 p.m., due to the Pirate Parade which kicks-off this year’s 56th Annual Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival, Centre, Ash, and Eighth Streets will be closed. The Rock and Roll themed Pirate Parade begins promptly at 6:00 p.m., and South Eighth Street will be closed from Ash Street to Centre Street permitting the parade to cross at these intersections. You can expect heavy traffic on South Eighth Street and South 14th Street 2 hours prior to, and 1 hour after the parade ends. To add to the congestion, there will also be a special Sounds on Center after the parade, from approximately 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., on Centre Street, from Second to Front Streets, so don’t forget to wear your dancing shoes and bring a lawn chair for both activities.

Shrimp Festival mapDowntown Fernandina Beach will be closing Centre Street, from Eighth Street to Front Street, at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 3, 2019, to all traffic except for Shrimp Festival participants. Also closed will be North and South Second Streets, North and South Third Streets, North and South Fourth Streets, North and South Fifth Streets, North and South Sixth Streets, and North and South Seventh Streets, all the way from Alachua Street to the North, and to Ash Street to the South. From 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., many of the Shrimp Festival participants and vendors will be setting up their booth spaces and display areas for Saturday and Sunday’s festivities. All vehicles/trailers must be removed by 6 p.m. Friday, May 3rd.  

Only pedestrian traffic will be allowed on Centre Street after 6:00 p.m. Friday evening, May 3rd. Large crowds are anticipated for the Opening Ceremonies, the Pirate Parade Awards, the Miss Shrimp Festival Pageant, live music by The Band Be Easy, the Invasion of the Pirates, and an amazing fireworks display.   

Expect continued vehicle congestion to continue Friday from 1:00 p.m. until after the fireworks, around 10:00 p.m.; Saturday May 4th, from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.; and on Sunday, May 5th, from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. 
It is strongly recommended that you take advantage of the Shrimp Festival’s $10.00 Park and Ride or the $15.00 Park and Walk locations.
