Friday of the Shrimp Festival is well known for the Historic Fernandina Business Association’s fabulous sidewalk sale! This is a great time to come out and meet the local merchants and business owners, and perhaps save a little money, too. The streets will close at 1:00 p.m. to through traffic, but May 3rd will still be a great day to go shopping on and around Centre Street where the sales will continue all day!
The Shrimp Festival officially begins at 6:00 pm. with opening ceremonies, the Miss Shrimp Festival Pageant, Live Music, Invasion of the Pirates, a a fireworks display all taking place at the waterfront stage. Food booths, sponsor booths, and other displays will also be open in the big parking lots along the river.
Also open on Friday night is the Kids Fun Zone at Central Park. There will be rides, ponies, facepainting, games, pirates and more!
Waterfront booths open at 4:00 p.m., and the Kids Fun Zone will be open from 5:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. This is the only day you can buy a wrist band and ride all the rides with no additional tickets needed. The Kids Fun Zone is located just outside of the downtown district, at Central Park on Atlantic Avenue.
There are no arts and craft booths open on Friday evening.
